Sight Reader

Tomas Tolsicky built the Sight Reader app. This service is provided at no cost for its free tier, with an optional one-time in-app purchase to unlock the full note range, and is intended for use as-is.

This page informs visitors of our policies around the collection, use, and disclosure of personal information for anyone who uses this app. By using the service, you agree to the collection and use of information in relation to this policy. We will not use or share your information with anyone except as described here.

Information collection and use

Sight Reader does not require an account, does not collect your name, email address, or any other personally identifiable information, and does not use the internet during normal use of the app. Your practice progress (which notes you've mastered, session history, and settings) is stored only on your device and is never transmitted anywhere.

Microphone access

Sight Reader can optionally use your device's microphone to listen to notes you play on a real instrument and detect their pitch, so the app can tell whether you played the correct note. This audio is analyzed entirely on your device in real time to detect pitch - it is never recorded, stored, transmitted, or shared with us or with any third party. You can use the app fully with the on-screen keyboard instead, without ever granting microphone access.

MIDI device access

If you connect an external MIDI keyboard or controller, Sight Reader reads the note on/off messages it sends so you can practice with a real keyboard. This connection is local to your device (USB or Bluetooth MIDI) and no MIDI data is transmitted off your device.

In-app purchases

The optional one-time purchase to unlock the full note range is processed entirely by Google Play Billing. We do not receive or store your payment details (card numbers, billing address, etc.) - see Google Play's privacy policy for how that transaction is handled.

Advertising

Sight Reader does not show ads and does not use any advertising or ad-analytics SDK.

Log data

Whenever you use the service, in the case of an error we may collect data and information (through Google Play's crash-reporting services) from your phone, called Log Data. This can include your device's IP address, device name, OS version, app configuration at the time, and the time and date of use.

Service providers

We may employ third-party companies and individuals to facilitate the service, provide it on our behalf, perform service-related tasks, or help us analyze how the service is used (for example, Google Play Services and Google Play Billing). These third parties have access to information only to perform their assigned tasks, and are obligated not to disclose or use it for any other purpose.

Security

We value your trust in providing your personal information, and strive to use commercially acceptable means of protecting it. No method of transmission over the internet or electronic storage is 100% secure, so we cannot guarantee its absolute security.

Links to other sites

This service may contain links to other sites. If you click a third-party link, you'll be directed to that site. Note that these external sites are not operated by us, and we have no control over their content, privacy policies, or practices.

Children's privacy

This service does not address anyone under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personally identifiable information from children under 13. If we discover a child under 13 has provided personal information, we delete it immediately; if you're a parent or guardian aware your child provided us personal information, please contact us.

Changes to this policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. Changes take effect immediately after being posted on this page, so please check back periodically.
